Jefferson Elks Lodge marks 60th anniversary

The Jefferson Elks Lodge is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2024.

The Lodge was originally Instituted into the BPO Elks USA on June 11, 1964. Charter members of the Elks were initiated into our order in the gymnasium of Jefferson High School on June 11. Initially, 239 residentds of the county were installed as members. Within the next year many more members were installed.

The Elks have a proud tradition of service to the community during the past 60 years. Of great importance is the record of service which includes the annual Christmas Day Dinner, honoring and assisting veterans, hoop shoot, Scouts, weddings, funerals, student scholarships, plus much more.

In the past 10 years thousands of dollars of donations have been presented to many organizations such as the Greene County Christian ARC food pantry, congregate meals, Jefferson Community Schools, Ram Reader program, Jefferson Parks and Recreation, and the list goes on. Donations of charitable time and money have been recorded by the Elks Grand Lodge and the total amount of donations by our Lodge to our community through 2019 was equivalent to $1.1 million. We continue to donate every year and we hope to continue well into the future!

A special evening of celebration of the anniversary and remembrance of the past occurred on Sept. 28. A dinner, program, and dance was enjoyed by Elks members and State Elk dignitaries.
